AI systems can be trained once and deployed infinitely, creating massive economic scaling advantages. Increased computing power enables both more model copies and more efficient training, leading to exponential growth potential.

AI systems have a decisive advantage over human intelligence: they can be trained once and then used in any number of copies. This “train-once-deploy-many” property leads to increasing economies of scale in AI applications. The key mechanism is twofold: with twice the computing power, we can not only run twice as many copies of the model but also train more powerful models that use inference computers more efficiently. This results in more than a doubling of economic output.

The trade-off between training and inference computers plays a crucial role here. Studies show that an increase in training effort by one order of magnitude can reduce the required inference computing power by about one order of magnitude.

 

In a hypothetical AI-dominated economy, this would lead to accelerated, hyperbolic growth, as new computer chips could both run more copies of existing AI models and train better models. In short, there is no end in sight to the development of AI. What's more, the constantly evolving and improving models can be multiplied as many times as hardware allows! The result is an intelligence explosion – the singularity is approaching.
