Dear Readers,
How much future can you fit into a single month?
Mary Meeker gives us the answer in her new AI trend report - and it is as clear as it is electrifying: we are in the midst of a technological transformation that surpasses everything that has gone before. Artificial intelligence is no longer just a tool, but an infrastructure. It is no longer just a topic, but the pace-setter of our time. And we - as a community - are not spectators, but co-creators of this development.
What particularly catches my eye is that the rapidly falling inference costs are the catalyst for a new start-up era. Developers from all corners of the world are accessing models that were previously reserved for tech giants. Anyone who is still talking about “AI is coming at some point in 2025” has not understood that it is already here - in research, in medicine, in our cities. Tesla will be putting robotaxis on the road in a few weeks, DeepSeek is surprising us with an update that is actually already a generational leap, and New York is becoming a serious competitor for Silicon Valley.
The same pattern everywhere: innovation, speed, relevance.

DeepMind’s MedGemma Drops
Doudna: The New Supercomputer Star
Andreessen Bets on Billions of Bots
And more AI goodness…
All the best,
The TLDR
Mary Meeker’s May 2025 report reveals that AI is evolving faster than the early internet, with skyrocketing adoption, plummeting inference costs, and surging developer activity. AI is becoming a foundational infrastructure across industries, amplifying human capabilities and creating entirely new sectors. The message is clear: we’re in a race to adapt — or be left behind.
Hold your breath, dear AI community! Mary Meeker's highly anticipated “Trends - Artificial Intelligence” report for May 2025 is more than just a read - it's a wake-up call!
Meeker presents a breathtaking snapshot of AI evolution unfolding at a pace that dwarfs even the early days of the internet. From explosive user adoption, as with ChatGPT, to gigantic investments in computing power for massive data centers, the numbers speak volumes.
Particularly exciting for us in the AI community is the analysis of the rapidly decreasing inference costs that are driving a veritable explosion of developer activity. AI is no longer just a niche product, but a fundamental infrastructure that is redefining everything from deep research to autonomous vehicles and drug development.
Meeker shows us not only how fast we are moving, but also where the journey could take us: a world where AI as a “compounder” exponentially augments our human capabilities and shapes new, unimaginable industries. Are we ready to harness these collective 'superpowers'?
Why it matters: This report is unequivocal evidence of the exponential acceleration of AI across all sectors. It underscores the need to adapt quickly and seize the unprecedented opportunities in a rapidly changing technology landscape.

Google DeepMind has unveiled MedGemma, its most advanced open-source AI model for interpreting both medical text and imagery. Designed for developers and healthcare researchers, MedGemma combines powerful multimodal capabilities with open access. It’s now available through the Health AI Developer Foundations, marking a major step toward democratizing AI in medicine.
Doudna: America’s Next Supercharged AI SupercomputerThe U.S. unveiled Doudna, a next-generation supercomputer designed to drive AI-powered breakthroughs in science, from fusion energy to drug discovery. Launching in 2026, it combines simulation, data, and AI into one real-time system, accelerating research and reinforcing America’s technological edge. | America’s Robot Revolution: The Next Industrial GiantMarc Andreessen predicts the rise of "hundreds of billions" of robots within a decade, urging the U.S. to lead the next industrial revolution by building advanced, autonomous machines. Instead of reviving outdated manufacturing, he calls for high-tech factories that design and produce the future’s robots, drones, and AI-powered systems. |
This statement, which DeepSeek officially posted on Huggingface, seems like a significant understatement. The latest R1 update is a significant leap forward, a major step up. And it came as a big surprise. The theory that the R1 update 0528 was actually intended as an R2 release seems increasingly plausible, and was only downplayed as an update due to the strength of the competition.
Tesla is launching a pilot project for its robotaxi service in Austin in June 2025 with around ten autonomous Model Y vehicles. The goal is to quickly expand the fleet to 1,000 vehicles. The cars rely solely on cameras and AI, without expensive sensors. The service will initially be available by invitation only and monitored by teleoperators. Tesla owners can contribute their vehicles to the fleet and potentially earn up to $30,000 annually. The specially designed Cybercab is set to enter mass production in 2026.
Apptronik CEO Jeff Cardenas describes humanoid robots as the “space race of our time”. With the humanoid robot “Apollo”, the company is aiming to take on a wide range of tasks in industry, healthcare and home care. Thanks to $350 million in funding and partnerships with Google DeepMind, Mercedes-Benz and GXO Logistics, Apptronik plans to make humanoid robots suitable for mass production. Cardenas emphasizes the need for a U.S. robotics strategy to remain competitive with China's $138 billion investment. He sees robots as human helpers, not replacements.
New York City is positioning itself as a serious competitor to Silicon Valley in the field of AI and robotics. NY Tech Week 2025, which takes place from June 2-8, features over 1,000 events, more than half of which focus on AI. For the first time, robotics topics will also be in the spotlight, including the presentation of NYU's RUKA tactile robotic hand. With the participation of industry giants such as IBM, OpenAI and Google, the city is underlining its claim to be a center for “hard tech” innovations.
